Grand Hyatt Lijiang features two separate locations, both offering a majestic experience.
In Lijiang in southwest China, time is said to have stood still. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, this picturesque ancient town is a Unesco World Heritage site, famed for its artery of ancient waterways and atmospheric cobbled streets filled with low-rise, tiled-roof architecture, as well as the unique culture of the local Naxi community descended from Tibetan nomads.
Grand Hyatt Lijiang is spread over two locations: a majestic complex in Gucheng district, within walking distance of Shuhe Ancient Town; and 30-minutes drive away in Ganhaizhi (‘dry sea meadow’), a cluster of luxury lodges at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It is the only hotel in Lijiang where guests can enjoy two splendid, yet contrasting experiences, while allowing the body to gradually acclimatize to the higher altitude—2,400 meters above sea level in Lijiang, rising to 3,100 meters at the Mountain Lodge.
Grand Hyatt Lijiang has been designed as a modern interpretation of a noble Chinese house in a bustling local village, combining traditional Naxi architecture with modern design. The lifestyle of the local community—the traditional clothing, fabrics, language and regional cuisine—are all reflected in the hotel interiors, featuring reclaimed antique-timber flooring, stone paving and wooden lattice door panels.
Aside from the Unesco World Heritage site—comprising the Dayan Old Town and Baisha and Shuhe housing clusters—Grand Hyatt Lijiang is also close to myriad other evocatively named places of interest including Lashi Lake; Black Dragon Pool; Blue Moon Valley; Tiger Leaping Gorge; and Wenhai village, inhabited by Naxi for over three centuries.
